Topic: UV10.2Win: Transferring regular Windows filesPosted: February 11 2008 at 11:15pm |

I already know how to use FT extensively to transfer UV files and Items, but what about regular, binary Windows files (.exe, .mp3, .dat, whatever) not derived from the "UV/PICK" UniVerse (pun not intended).
Say for example I wanted a program to automatically transfer a new version of our logon.exe program each time a user logs in (which checks for new versions of AccuTerm scripts on our servers automatically); how would that be accomplish? Thanks - Zonk |

Hi Zonk -
You are in luck with Universe, because it supports binary data in its file system. However, you cannot use type-1 or type-19 files, because Universe performs translation of LF and @AM characters when reading/writing to these file types. In AccuTerm's FT program, change the transfer mode from text to binary before the transfer (type "O" at the first FT prompt to open the options screen). Be sure to use Kermit as the transfer protocol (ASCII won't work with binary data). Thanks, Pete |
