Hyperlink in Excel Column

I am building a hyperlink for an excel file that is using FTD to create the excel speadsheet.  One of the columns is a =HYPERLINK(c:\pdffiles\pdfdoc.pdf).  If you type the field in excel it creates the hyperlink. When sent via FTD the whole command shows in the cell, like text.  Any way to put the command in as a calculation in excel so the hyperlink will work when FTD sends and creates the spreadsheet ?
