Hi All -
Currently, the SUI programs have a copyright statement that basically gives anyone permission to use the programs, but prohibits re-distributing them without permission. Since they would (presumably) be distributed with AccuTerm, anyone using AccuTerm could legally use them. I have heard arguments for making the library "open source" or public domain, where anyone can use it for anything and redistribute it freely. The idea being that the more people using these (or similar) routines, the more successful the MV market will be, in general, and so the better for all of us. If we decide to go open source or public domain, do you have any thoughts about posting on picksource.com? Thanks, Pete |

I notice it works with Accuterm much better than anything else I have tried it on so far. They did a Survey a while back and almost 1/2 the users on PickSource used Accuterm as their terminal emulator anyway. wIntegrate was a distant second. I think it would be a good place to display the technology though. Glen has showcased new products and enhancements in the past.

Pete,
For my two cents I can see it from both sides. As a developer who likes to get paid for doing work, I can understand why you might want to license it as part of Accuterm. As a user of lots of excellent open source programs, I can see certain advantages of distributing it via Open Source. Not only is it available for everyone to use, it is also available for everyone to IMPROVE. It is amazing what can be accomplished when a large number of motivated and intelligent individuals work together to improve software they're excited about using. I will take a look at this Smart User Interface and test it out on QM and see how it works. I myself, am working on a Accuterm GUI toolkit, which I haven't decided how I am going to distribute. I believe in both models. Does this make me conflicted or a hypocrit? Just my two cents, Deech |
