Is it possible to change the Kermit source buffer index and max packet size in a running production system with sessions running in AccuTerm?

We're running D3 on Linux, I was looking at the Kermit config in FTSETUP and saw that we're using 250 and 94 for the source buffer index and max packet size. In the documentation and other threads I've seen recommendations for 700 & 500 or 2000 & 2000 for the source buffer and max packet size. I'm concerned that changing these values while we've got many open sessions will cause problems.

Thanks

Hi Ian -

You can change those setting while users are running AccuTerm. They are MATREAD into an array when any of the FT programs begin, so changing them will not affect any file transfer currently in progress.

Thanks,

Pete

Thanks for the reply Pete! Follow up question, what does the FTPARAMS file control?

Changing the Kermit config makes a huge difference in file transfer speeds! I ran some tests using a 122,567 byte file. Here's the  results that I got:

Source   Packet    Transfer
Index     Size        Time (ms)
250        94           8771
750        500         2036
1000      1000      1301
1500      1500      1072
1700      1700      1066
1800      1800      1065
2000      2000      983
4000      4000      1120

Dang, I'm gonna hit that setting!

It would be rather easy to automate a test which did the above with a much larger sample, and then locked-in the final best value for the current config. ... One of these days...
