When I was at International Spectrum last year, I believe I recall the ability to turn Green-Screen Character Based screens into something that looks GUI, but isn't, it just looks that way. I believe Accuterm7 was required. Do I remember correctly?

Hi Dave -

AccuTerm 7 has a feature called "visual styles" which allows you to assign a border style to a green-screen visual attribute. For example you can assign an inset-style border to the reverse video attribute. Then, by using standard Windows colors for the text & background, all fields displayed on the screen using the reverse attribute "appear" to be text boxes. If the application uses visual attributes in a consistent manner, you can apply this "fake GUI look" by setting the colors & styles in your AccuTerm session. Some pre-defined schemes are available, like "modern windows", which is a good starting place.

You can go one step further by replacing PRINT & INPUT statements in your program with calls to SUI.PRINT & SUI.INPUT included in the Smart User Interface (SUIBP) library that comes with AccuTerm.

You can go even further by using the other SUIBP routines to add full mouse functionality, scrolling lists and windowing.

Thanks,

Pete
