Anyone running AccuTerm via App-V?
We've just started testing whether it'll run as we want it under this environment, and I'm coming across some oddities with the screen print options - in graphics mode it's fine, but in text mode sometimes it won't print, other times it cuts off a few characters from the left as if there's a border, and other times it'll print something from a buffer regardless of what's on screen. And it's impossible to have the Screen Print option checked without the Slave Print option being checked as well, clearing the latter will clear the former. So if anyone has experience of using AccuTerm under these circumstances I'd be grateful to know. (Microsoft Application Virtualization platform allows applications to be deployed in real-time to any client from a virtual application server. It removes the need for local installation of the applications. Instead, only the App-v client needs to be installed on the client machines. All application data is permanently stored on the virtual application server. Whichever software is needed is either streamed or locally cached from the application server on demand and run locally.) |

Hi acmedia -
I have not tried App-V yet. Text mode printing basically sends a character stream directly to the printer via the Windows spooler, bypassing the printer driver. In the case of screen printing, a CR/LF is appended to each line, and an optional FF is sent before and/or after the screen text. Its quite simple, but lots of modern printers do not work with plain text. Hence graphics mode printing, which uses Windows graphics functions to "draw" the text on a page. This mode uses the printer driver and should work on most printers. In case you have not tried it yet, the "standalone" or "portable" install modes for AccuTerm 7 should give you about the same capability as App-V. You can do a portable install to a removable device and run AccuTerm on any Windows machine that you connect the device to. Standalone is similar except that it sets up the file extension registry entries for .atcf, .atsc & .atly files. Also, portable stores config files & preference settings under the same directory as the program; standalone stores these in the users Documents directory and the HKCU section of the registry. Thanks, Pete |
