I'm curious about how people are using SUI, if you have apps deployed with it, and how you feel this compares to other methods of creating a GUI for MV apps.

If you're using SUI, what can you not do that you'd like to do?

If you're not using SUI, why not?

As a component developer specializing in user-interfaces and interfaces between MV and non-mv software, I'm just wondering what can be done to make SUI more usable - or maybe it's fully usable as-is and we just need to see more examples of it being used.

TIA

I use SUI on occasion to spruce up old green screen apps where a GUI is just too much overhead or just not needed.  A couple of thing I have implemented myself are combo and drop lists (via various means depending on what the customer code already does).  i.e. a ? in a field may open the "drop-down list" for the user to choose from or it may just open the "drop-down list" when the field is first entered into and force input from the list only.

It would be nice to have a combo and drop-down subroutine.  Also, it would be nice to have  SUI screen drawing program (I have the beginnings but not the time to finish).  You can cursor around the screen, type a single key to create a control (L for label, T for text, etc).  Then save the screen and run a routine that reads the screen item and processes the data.  What I would like to see behind that is the ability to add a set of files to the screen and attach before, after and raw routines to the fields as well as standard iconv and oconv formatting options.

Of course, by that point, why not just use Nucleus?

Thanks,

Marshall

Thanks Marshall. Actually, you've just defined Symbion which is a sort of super ATGUI development environment created by Gary Huffer. I'm sure Gary or one of the Symbion users will chime in here with more info. We have created a whole website for symbion with FAQ, forum, etc but it hasn't gone live because the product has been undergoing some major changes. When it's all ready I'll invite people over for a look.

Aside from that, I know what you're talking about and it would be neat to be able to kickstart SUI development like that. As usual, anything is possible with some development time, but I find people usually want such things for free, and I'm not going to work for a month to help someone else do something for free. ;) So if anyone would like to commission some "SUI Magic", just let me know.
