i have a routine that transfers data and converts to a xls format file. the routine works perfectly when initiated from a pc running accuterm. i would like to be able to incorporate this routine into a nightly background (phantom) process. when i do, nothing happens, all i get is "FTD requires AccuTerm to run!". Is there someway to allow FTD to run as a phantom.

You cannot run AccuTerm file transfers without AccuTerm on the other end of a connection. When you launch a phantom, there is nothing on the other end, hence the transfer fails.

Thanks for the answer. So now I have another question: can I somehow call into the FTBP program that takes a PICK file and converts it to an EXCEL file and saves it a file on the PICK side.
Currently I am running D3 on windows. A user on the system creates a D3 data file via a basic program, then they use FTD to move the data from the D3 file to a local file on the D3 server (which is a mapped network drive on their local machine). It is converted to EXCEL format very nicely. And everyone would be happy, except the boss wants the file updated at night. The routine works so well (thanks to you) that I hate to abandon it and start again from scratch. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Steve PS: in case no one else has said so, I really like (almost love) the new gui data transfer routines. |

Hi Steve -
You will need to leave a PC running AccuTerm logged on at night, and just let it sleep until its time to start the FTD transfer. Since you are running D3 on Windows, you could install AccuTerm on the D3 server and let the server itself be the PC running AccuTerm for this purpose. If you are short of D3 users and do not want to leave this process connected all the time, you could probably use the Windows scheduler to start AccuTerm at a particular time. Instead of starting AccuTerm from its exe, create a script that logs on and let the scheduler launch a shortcut to the script. Then when the job is done, let D3 "exit". If AccuTerm has the "close session on disconnect" and "close accuterm when all sessions close" options set, then AccuTerm will shut down when the job is done. Thanks, Pete |
