    Posted: November 18 2009 at 11:05am
Greetings,

This might better belong in the group called "future enhancements" or some such, but I could not find that today, so into GUI it goes.

I like WED very much. It's a fine editor that does about 99% of things right. Now sometimes it makes the delete or backspace button not work, but that's trivial. I can overcome that one with some arrow keys and the other key.

But, as I get older and my eyesight continues to fail, I find myself spending lots of time searching for the cursor in WED when I go there from the GED GUI as I'm editing some code. Perhaps it's something in my monitor set up or just my failing eyesight, but it is just very difficult to see that nice "|" cursor.

Is it possible to provide an option to change the cursor to a block like there is in AccuTerm?

Even if you do it, I probably will never get to use it since it's hard for me to convince my clients to upgrade.

Thank you,

Larry Hazel

I like that! I find myself looking at the status bar to see what line number the cursor is on quite a bit. I guess us PICK guys are starting to get up there in age. Pretty soon we'll have gone on the same path as the COBOL guys!

Oh well. I've worked with it all these years. I can put up with it for a few more years. Of course, I'm probably going to have to set my screen resolution down a bit though. I like to run it at least 1280 x 1024.

Why not just change the font size in WED?  Also, I find Consolas 12pt easier to read than MVW Lucida Console 11pt.  I even bump up to 14pt at times when I'm doing a lot of editing.  Not good for printing though as it makes my lines wrap a lot more and adds pages upon pages.

One other thing that helps is to change the colors.  I use earth tones with a dark dusky gray background and it is much easier on the eyes.

Marshall,

I can read the text, I just have problems locating the cursor when I invooke WED from within GED.

I tried the gray and I don't like it. It makes my screen look dirty.

I don't think that particular change is going to help me any.

Thank you,

Larry

Apparently I cannot see well enough to catch the typos.

Obviously invooke should be invoke.

Sorry about that. 8>(

Understood...try these settings...I can see the cursor really well, it almost glows.

Font: Consolas 14pt
Background: 41 49 84
Normal Text: 237 218 159
Language: 185 200 226
String: 197 196 147
Label: 238 228 198
User Keyword: 196 146 148

I also find these colors rather soothing for mind, body and soul (not mention the eyes, oh wait, that would be body wouldn't it?).

I made the changes to the colors. They are definiteliy less garish than the standard colors, but there has not been any significant improvement on the cursor.

It's always at the left edge, just before the text of the label of the same color and it tends to blend in to me.

I'll try this for a while and see if I like it better. I'm going to have to let my eyes adjust to these colors. They do not seem to stand out very well to me. I like the various variable to be very distinctive, etc.

Thanks for the information.

Larry Hazel

PS: If the cursor is away from the left margin, it is very visible.

Glad it helped some.  True the left margin area is a challenge.  Maybe Pete could make the left margin be a few pixels away from the edge of the window border so it would have a small buffer zone there.

Hi All -

Per your request, I modified the line number margin display code for the next version so that there is an extra pixel in the document background color after the margin.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

That's totally awesome. Hope I can persuade my clients to upgrade.

Would I be able to use WED without upgrading the rest of AccuTerm? I'm probably the only person who uses WED.

That's the sort of thing that makes AccuSoft a great company to deal with.  Customer responsiveness is important, and you hardly get it these days.  Even at McDonald's and Buger King you ask for something easy like no mayo or pickles and you get an exasperated looked and a deep sigh.

Thanks Pete, keep up the good work.
