Topic: Telent timeoutPosted: August 11 2004 at 5:54am |

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the problem I am having with accuterm2k2. We have a user that connects from India they have and they get a telnet timeout. I’ve tried change the timeout time to 30 seconds instead of 0 but have the same problem. Someone told me to try first, you must set Accuterm to use the port assigned to your gateway. How do you accomplish this? |

Hi -
If you do not specify a port number in the AccuTerm Connection settings for telnet, AccuTerm will use TCP port 23. This is the standard telnet port. If the host is listening on a different port (for example, when using D3 nailed ports), specify it in the port field of the settings. Thanks, Pete |

Thanks Pete,
I am fairly new at tcp/ip and telnet. Could you tell me how I would go about finding out what port the host is listening too? Would this be done at our site or the other site? Other user's have no problem login into the system except for this new user. Thanks for your time and help, Pedro |

Hi Pedro -
Use the same port that other users that are able to log in are using. Thanks, Pete |

OK, here is something strange. We tried connecting to our unix box via accuterm from inside and outside a firewall and still got the accuterm timeout from a location in California with a T1 line. But when we tried login in with the same username and password from a DSL in VA and a Cable modem in MD we had no problems accessing the server.

Hi -
Can you "ping" the unix box from the locations where you are having problems connecting? You might need to forward the port that ping uses to the unix box in your firewall rules to check it out. Thanks, Pete |

Yes we are able to ping it, just found out that they set up a PC outside there firewall and were able to connect to our unix box. But can't establish a connection inside their firewall.
thanks, Pedro |
