Topic: connection to hostPosted: November 07 2005 at 3:11am |

I have a machine here (it's running windows XP SP2 and using Accuterm 2000, the host is windows 2000 server )
this machine is having an intermittent problem of connecting to the host. sometimes the user will be working and all of the sudden they cannot type anymore and they have to close the window nad open a new one, hoping that it will let htem on this time. sometimes when they open the window to log on they would be prompted for username which means that there is a conenction to the host, but then they find out that they can't type , and this happens everyday now, and is driving me bananas, because there is 20 other people that are telneting to the same host and none of them is having this problem. I checked the connection settings ,read the manual used the help menu but couldn't find anything that might be the issue here. when this happens, there is no error coming up that says that the connection timed out or anything... Please Help.. |

Could be a duplexing issue with the network card or cable. Try setting the network card's speed and duplex to 10MB half-duplex and see if that helps. Are you using DHCP to assign IPs? If so, try assigning an unused static IP. If you are using a static IP, make sure that two devices aren't using the same IP. Glen

since my last reply, i tried what you have suggested, and accuterm worked fine, until today. It did it again, just locked up, and when i close the window and open a new one with a new session, it prints up the welcome 2 lines and stops right before the line that says " enter username: " , i made anew connection it worked for 5 minutes not even and locked up again.. do you have any other suggestions. I'm a desperate need for this to be fixed.
Thanks. |

Hi -
Sounds like a hardware problem with your network. Look for a bad switch, hub, cable, nic, etc. Thanks, Pete |

I thought it might be the cable or the Nic, cause other people are using the same switches and hub and have no problems. the other weird thing is , we use another software called win2000 that basically make the same telnet connection to the server to use our system, and the user can run that from her machine no problems, never timed out or anything.

you wouldn't believe what was causing all this.
the user is used to putting her pen on top of the keyboard, so everytime she does and touchs the "Scroll Lock" key the issue come up where she can't type or do anything, appearently the "Scroll Lock " key when activated, prevents input of the keyboard on the terminal sessions. I figured it out by accident actually. so if you have this problem, do this first and check the "Scroll Lock " key if it's on turn it off. Thanks to all that helped with this. |
