I frequently want to be able to jump back into screen history to find something of interest. I'll scroll back, scanning every line, then copy the text and paste it somewhere.

I'd like to automate that process. Before I write a macro I'm wondering if someone else has a utility that does this.

This could be done in a number of ways but this is what comes to mind first:

1) Use a hotkey to launch a script that does a GetText operation of all scroll history. The text is then in the clipboard.
2) Save the clipboard into a variable.
3) Prompt the user for text to search.
4) Find that text in the variable and note the line number.
5) Scroll back into the buffer to that line.
6) Other hotkeys can perform Next/Previous operations, and maybe things like Copy the current line, Copy the next line, Copy the current buffer page, etc.

It would be really swell if Zumasys did this and provided the script.

Another way to do that would again be to copy the text into the clipboard, but then to launch a text editor like Sublime, paste the text in, and then use all of the common tools available to search, copy, and manipulate the data.

BTW - this could also be useful for those times when someone says "I typed something in and it didn't work, what do I do?" (yeah, I actually got that recently ) The first couple steps of the above could be used to scrape the terminal history and email it to Support. So all you'd need to do is to tell someone "when you have an issue, press F12, write something in the text box that explains what you were doing, and then click OK.

This is a neat idea! I had never thought of doing something like this!
